To open your uPVC sash window, lift the lower sash gently until it is fully open. Locate the tilt latches at the top of the sash. Release both latches at the same time and carefully tilt the sash inwards for cleaning. To close, tilt the sash back into place and ensure it sits flush with the frame.
If your sash feels stiff or won’t stay open, it’s usually due to misaligned balances, or minor mechanical adjustments being needed. First, check the channels are clear and clean. Lubricate the moving parts with a silicone-based spray (avoid WD-40). If the sash still doesn’t move smoothly or stay up, contact your installer - they can adjust the balance mechanisms to restore smooth operation.
To keep your sash windows looking their best and operating smoothly, clean them regularly with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the finish. Wipe down the glass with a standard glass cleaner or a mild vinegar-water solution.
